About Us

Hiking is just another step (pardon the pun) in a healthy life. Dan and I have met thousands of hikers over the last 30 years. Men, Women, Young and old. Black, Brown, Yellow and White. They all had a few things in common. They all began to enjoy a healthier lifestyle, they all loved the “woods”, and the quiet serenity and beauty of nature. That sounds simple and it is.
Dan was in great shape when he left Springer Mountain in 2018. He was a runner and had competed in races and marathons for years before we took up hiking in the North Carolina mountains. I was more of a “couch potato” and although I tried to stay healthy, running or even walking around the block didn’t do anything for me.

Dan caught a worse case of hiking than I did. We began doing day hikes in the mountains and back in Florida we’d hike the “LOST” trail. The 109-mile (Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail). By that time, we were both into backpacking, doing multi day hikes of 60 to 80 miles with 12 to 16 miles a day and more (one I remember was 22 miles). When he made the decision to complete the Appalachian Trail. I decided to help him anyway I could.
